The US 40-Ton Tank Transporter, commonly known as the Dragon Wagon, was developed by the United States during the Second World War to address the logistical challenge of moving increasingly heavy armoured vehicles. As tank weights rose sharply in the early 1940s, conventional transport and recovery solutions proved inadequate, prompting the need for a purpose-built heavy transporter.

Introduced into production in 1943, the Dragon Wagon combined an armoured tractor unit with a reinforced low-bed trailer, offering a rated load capacity of 40 tons. This configuration allowed damaged or immobilised tanks to be recovered from the battlefield and transported to repair facilities, significantly improving operational continuity. The vehicle was also used to move boats and heavy engineering equipment in support of river-crossing operations, further extending its logistical value.
