WPL's Own Upgrade Route for the C104
The C104 also has a manufacturer-supported upgrade route.
WPL currently identifies the following options for the model:
- 4x4 metal upgrade;
- RES-V3;
- 17 g metal-gear servo;
- higher-capacity battery options.
Because the C104 has its own chassis and leaf-spring layout, WPL also gives model-specific fitment notes.
The conventional WPL two-speed gearbox does not fit because the C104 chassis does not provide enough clearance.
WPL does not recommend its oil shocks with the standard C104 leaf-spring setup because they may reduce the suspension movement that gives the model much of its character.
The 4x4 metal axle upgrade can be used, although WPL notes that its additional width can require DIY adjustment around the hex adapter to maintain body clearance.
Those notes are best treated as part of understanding the architecture rather than as a criticism of the model.
The C104 has its own way of moving.
Upgrade it when a change supports the particular project you want to build.
A Larger Battery Can Preserve the Original Character
The supplied battery is a 2S 7.4 V 500 mAh Li-ion pack, and WPL quotes approximately 15 minutes of runtime.
Actual runtime will vary with terrain, throttle use and battery condition.
