FairRC is becoming more interesting for a reason that has relatively little to do with any single RC crawler.

The important development is the structure forming around the vehicles.

Stock FMS models remain a major part of the catalogue, but they increasingly sit beside FairRC's own modified RTR builds, BATRAZZI upgrade components, platform-specific parts, 3D-printed accessories and, more recently, configurable vehicles that allow some of the build decisions to be made before the crawler even arrives.

FairRC now describes itself as a scale RC ecosystem built around the idea of being able to start stock, choose a curated FairRC Mod or evolve a platform progressively with upgrades.

That description matters because it explains much of what can now be seen across the catalogue.

The direction is no longer simply:

Choose an RC car.

It is increasingly:

Choose a platform, then decide what kind of vehicle you want that platform to become.

There is an interesting piece of context here.

Back in June 2026, Scale & Motion published FairRC Mod RTR Explained — The Build Culture Behind the Most Talked-About Crawlers in 1/18 and 1/24 Scale.

One section of that article was deliberately titled “Taking It Further — Mod the Mod.”

The argument was that a FairRC Mod RTR should not necessarily be regarded as a finished vehicle.

Instead, the existing Mod could become another starting point: change the wheels again, experiment with tyres, add lower chassis weight, move towards brushless power, change the body treatment or redistribute components between different crawlers in a collection.

The wider point was that the FairRC and BATRAZZI ecosystem appeared capable of becoming additive. One modification did not have to replace the previous idea; each layer could create the foundation for another.

At the time, that was primarily an editorial interpretation of where the Mod RTR concept could logically go.

FairRC's current positioning now looks remarkably close to that idea.

The company explicitly presents three possible routes: keep a vehicle stock, begin with a curated FairRC Mod, or take a platform and continue evolving it over time with BATRAZZI parts and scale accessories.

More significantly, the new Build Your Own FCX24M moves part of that customisation process to the very beginning. Body shell, tyres and wheels can be selected as part of the initial build rather than being replaced only after buying a standard RTR.

There is no reason to suggest that one caused the other, and independent ideas often converge when a market is moving in a logical direction.

But it is still satisfying to look back at that June article and realise that Scale & Motion appears to have identified the direction before FairRC expressed it quite so explicitly.

“Mod the Mod” has, in effect, become increasingly close to “Mod Your Way.”

That is less about claiming credit and more about something useful editorially: understanding where the hobby may be moving rather than simply reporting the latest product after it appears.

The Three Ways FairRC Now Approaches a Crawler

The current FairRC structure can be understood through three distinct routes.

  • Stock RTR: start with the original FMS or other manufacturer platform.
  • FairRC Mod RTR: choose a complete custom interpretation with selected visual or mechanical changes already made.
  • Build and evolve: begin with a platform and progressively change tyres, wheels, suspension, steering, weight distribution, body details and other components.

None of these routes is inherently superior.

What has changed is that FairRC is increasingly building its catalogue around all three rather than treating upgrades as an unrelated collection of aftermarket parts.

FMS Remains the Platform Foundation

FairRC's identity has become more independent, but FMS remains central to much of the crawler ecosystem.

That relationship makes sense.

FMS has developed several platforms with characteristics particularly suited to this kind of approach: detailed licensed or scale-inspired bodies, two-speed transmissions, compact FCX chassis, multiple wheelbases and a growing parts infrastructure.

The arrival of the FMS FCX18 II Ford F-100 provides one of the clearest current examples.

The F-100 is important in its own right: an officially licensed sixth-generation Ford pickup body sits on an all-new second-generation FCX18 chassis with a 199mm wheelbase.

The new platform introduces a low-centre-of-gravity chassis architecture, metal chassis rails, a two-speed transmission, oil-filled shocks and a magnetic quick-release body system.

But from an ecosystem perspective, the more interesting detail is what surrounds the vehicle.

A substantial parts catalogue already exists around the FCX18 II, covering replacement drivetrain components, body assemblies, suspension components, lighting, electronics and other factory parts.

Stock First Is Still a Very Sensible Approach

The existence of a large upgrade catalogue should not be interpreted as an argument for immediately modifying every vehicle.

A strong RTR platform deserves to be driven before anything is changed.

That first period establishes useful reference points:

  • how much grip the original tyres provide
  • whether the suspension feels appropriately controlled
  • how stable the vehicle is on side slopes
  • whether steering accuracy is actually limiting the crawler
  • where additional weight would help rather than hurt
  • which visual details genuinely need changing

Without that baseline, modifications can easily become component collecting rather than vehicle development.

Weathering would be a questionable choice if the only purpose of an RC crawler were to look perfect in its box.

The company's own account of its Mod programme describes an iterative process rather than a perfectly formed product strategy.

Its first modified FCX24 Power Wagon began as an experiment involving paint, decals and 3D-printed components.

FairRC has also described customer feedback as part of how later projects evolved.

That history is relevant because custom RC is unusually dependent on enthusiast judgement.

A designer can decide that a truck needs a particular bumper, but experienced owners may immediately notice that it reduces clearance.

A visual idea can look excellent in photographs but add unwanted weight high on the body.

Community feedback therefore has considerable practical value in this part of the hobby.

Niche Builds Can Be a Strength

FairRC's custom-build history also suggests a willingness to pursue designs that would make little sense as high-volume manufacturer releases.

That is one of the advantages of modifying existing platforms.

FMS needs vehicles with enough broad appeal to justify full manufacturing and licensing programmes.

It does not need to become the next mass-market platform to justify its existence.

FMS may be the strongest foundation for the Mod ecosystem, but FairRC's catalogue is broader.

Other manufacturers and chassis families continue to sit alongside the FMS range.

This matters because the underlying model is larger than one manufacturer.

If the same approach works elsewhere — stock platform, compatible upgrade layer and carefully developed custom versions — it can be applied selectively across other crawler ecosystems.

BATRAZZI's expansion beyond FMS is particularly relevant in that context.

What FairRC Should Not Become

The strongest version of this strategy is not one where every vehicle receives dozens of cosmetic variants.

Too many superficial Mods would eventually make the catalogue difficult to understand and weaken the distinction between genuinely considered builds and simple colour changes.

The better direction is deeper rather than merely larger:

  • strong base platforms
  • clear replacement-parts support
  • carefully chosen functional upgrades
  • distinctive Mod RTR concepts
  • configurable builds where customer choice adds real value
  • platform-specific guidance that explains compatibility

That would give FairRC a position that is difficult for a conventional RC retailer to reproduce simply by stocking more products.

This remains the best route for hobbyists who enjoy building gradually.

Drive the original crawler, understand its strengths and limitations, then decide what deserves attention.

Could Tools and Finishing Materials Be the Next Step?

There is another logical layer to this ecosystem: not simply the parts used to modify a crawler, but the equipment and materials used to do the work properly.

Could the same idea eventually extend further into the materials used to paint, weather, detail and finish custom builds?

FairRC's own Mod history already involves paint, decals, 3D-printed parts, weathered bodies and custom finishes. If FairRC eventually deepens this part of the ecosystem, the ownership path could become unusually complete.

A customer could begin with a stock FMS crawler, choose a FairRC Mod or configurable build, add BATRAZZI components, use FairRC's tools to work on the platform and then develop the body and finish with dedicated modelling materials.

Whether FairRC will move that far is impossible to know.

But the company has already expanded well beyond the conventional role of an RC retailer, and several of its most interesting ideas — Mod RTR, platform-specific upgrade ecosystems, tools and tuning support, and now configurable builds — show that the concept is still developing.

It is therefore worth keeping an open mind.

FairRC has repeatedly found new ways to extend what a scale RC platform can become, and the remaining boundaries appear to be less about a shortage of ideas than about compatibility, practicality and what builders actually want to create.

Where This Direction Could Lead

FairRC has not announced a fixed endpoint for this strategy, so anything beyond the current catalogue needs to be treated as interpretation rather than fact.

But the pattern is becoming coherent.

FairRC's own positioning now centres on the idea of a scale RC ecosystem.

Its Mod catalogue continues to expand around specific vehicle families.

BATRAZZI is being organised increasingly around individual chassis while extending beyond FMS.

New platforms such as FCX18 II are receiving dedicated upgrade support very early in their life.

And the Build Your Own FCX24M introduces customer configuration as another route between stock and fully modified RTR.

Taken together, those developments suggest that FairRC's strongest opportunity is not competing to become the largest general RC retailer.

It is becoming better at everything that happens after a good platform has been created.

FMS and FairRC Are Increasingly Complementary

This is also why FMS and FairRC should not really be viewed as interchangeable choices.

FMS is strongest when developing the base vehicles: chassis architectures, licensed bodies, drivetrains, electronics and factory parts support.

FairRC can then explore what those platforms become once enthusiasts start treating them as projects.

BATRAZZI occupies the space between them by providing components that increasingly appear across both ecosystems.

The most interesting result is therefore not FMS versus FairRC.

It is the relationship between:

platform → modification → personalisation → long-term parts support.

At its most developed, there is almost a LEGO-like logic to this idea — not because every component is universally interchangeable, but because a common platform can support many different combinations and directions.

A chassis can receive a different body treatment, wheel and tyre package, suspension setup, steering hardware, weight distribution or scale accessories without requiring the entire vehicle to be replaced.

Within each chassis family and scale, deeper and clearly documented compatibility could make that concept considerably more powerful.

Imagine buying into an FCX platform not simply as one finished RTR, but as a modular foundation whose compatible bodies, wheels, tyres, drivetrain options, suspension parts and accessories can continue to evolve around it.

That would create something close to a construction system for scale RC. The same core platform could become an overland truck, a technical crawler, a weathered utility vehicle, a show-oriented custom build or something that does not yet exist in the catalogue.

The analogy only works if compatibility remains clear. A 1:18 label or an FCX badge does not automatically mean that every component fits every vehicle, and wheelbase, mounting points, offsets, tyre dimensions and chassis geometry still matter.

But the principle is compelling: the more coherent the compatibility becomes within each platform family, the more valuable the platform itself becomes.

That is a considerably stronger foundation for a hobby than treating every new RTR as a disposable standalone product.

Final Thoughts

FairRC's current direction looks less like a conventional expansion of an online RC store and more like the gradual construction of a build ecosystem.

The original FMS platforms remain essential. Without capable stock vehicles such as FCX24M, FCX18S, FCX18 II and FCX10, there is nothing meaningful to build around.

FairRC's contribution is increasingly what happens next.

A stock crawler can stay stock.

A FairRC Mod can reinterpret it as a specific vehicle.

A configurable build can give the buyer more control from the beginning.

BATRAZZI can change individual aspects of an existing chassis over time.

That gives the hobbyist something more valuable than a constant sequence of new models: continuity.

The truck bought today can remain relevant because the project around it continues to develop.

And there is a satisfying editorial footnote to that evolution.

When Scale & Motion described the concept as “Mod the Mod” in June 2026, the idea was that the FairRC Mod itself could become a platform rather than an endpoint. FairRC's current “Mod Your Way” positioning and its first configurable FCX24M now make that possibility considerably more tangible.

Perhaps Scale & Motion simply followed the logic of the platform to the same destination. Perhaps the direction was already taking shape inside FairRC.

Either way, seeing an editorial observation made several months earlier reflected so clearly in the subsequent evolution of the ecosystem is an encouraging sign that the original analysis was looking in the right direction.

If FairRC maintains that discipline — concentrating on coherent platforms, useful upgrades and genuinely distinct custom builds rather than modification for its own sake — this may prove to be the most convincing part of its identity.
