US 40 Ton Tank Transporter “Dragon Wagon” 1:35 Scale Model Kit by Tamiya
Tamiya’s 1:35 scale Dragon Wagon accurately recreates this iconic military transporter, offering a large, highly detailed model that reflects both the engineering complexity and sheer presence of the original vehicle.
Historical background
By the early 1940s, the rapid increase in the weight and size of armoured fighting vehicles created a serious logistical challenge. Tanks such as the M4 Sherman, and later heavier designs, required specialised transport to move them efficiently to and from the front line.
In 1943, the United States began production of the M25 Tank Transporter, commonly referred to as the Dragon Wagon. Built around an armoured cab and paired with a heavy-duty trailer, the vehicle was capable of carrying loads of up to 40 tons. Its primary role was the recovery and transport of damaged or immobilised tanks, but it was also used for moving heavy equipment and supporting river-crossing operations.
The Dragon Wagon proved invaluable in both the European and Pacific theatres, significantly improving the mobility and sustainability of Allied armoured units.
The Tamiya 1:35 scale kit
This 1:35 scale plastic model assembly kit faithfully represents the Dragon Wagon with the level of precision expected from Tamiya’s military range. The kit captures the vehicle’s imposing proportions, armoured cab design, and robust trailer structure, making it a centrepiece model for WWII armour collections.
Designed for experienced builders, the kit offers a rewarding build with a strong focus on realism and structural accuracy.
